Cameroon: Nutrition Business Forum

UNICEF and the Ministry of Public Health, hosted the first Business Forum for nutrition for 30 private sector representatives in Douala to discuss the role of the private sector in investing for the development and scaling up of multisectoral nutrition interventions in Cameroon.

The discussions centered around experiences of the role of business and the need for business to engage within a multi-stakeholder approach to scale up nutrition, particularly amongst children.

The event achieved number of positive outcomes: a roadmap was issued for companies involved in the manufacture of complementary foods; to highlight the use of mobile as a vector of communication and data exchange; and strengthen communication for development of communities and contribute financially for an investment fund for nutrition, which should be rapidly put in place. Moreover, enterprise ‘ambassadors’ were also acknowledged as locomotives for the private sector and as advocates of domestic resource mobilization and appropriate child nutrition in Cameroon.
