SBN Case Study:

Member becomes role model for Workforce Nutrition Programme

A story about how one of the country's SUN Business Network member became a role model for the Workforce Nutrition Program.

Let us introduce a story about how one of our SUN Business Network member became a role model for the Workforce Nutrition Program. Aquatic Development Company Limited (ADC), one of the biggest fingerling fish farms in Lao PDR, was previously distributing a lunch allowance to their staff, but they discovered that their staff were buying cheap and unhealthy foods and beverages from nearby shops for their lunch to save the rest of the money to support their families.

Many of their staff are from remote villages, and thus their access to nutrition education is limited. To address this, ADC started supporting their staff to grow fresh vegetables in the company land and each week, staff take turns preparing lunch for colleagues with the harvest from the vegetable garden. After ADC investing in time to teach the staff how to use nutritious crops and cook healthier food, the staff became motivated and now enjoy their lunchtime together, which has improved staff morale. “Our staff are very happy that we provide them an encouraging and enabling environment to grow and cook healthy food. Since the staff always share food with fun stories, the good mood still remains when everyone goes back to work. We are seeing changes every day – not only in their performance at work but also in teamwork,” says Ms Bounphithack, Assistant Manager at ADC.

Thank you for your continuous effort to encourage and practice Workforce Nutrition Program at your door @Aquatic Development Company Limited (ADC).
