CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY WITH AIRSTRIP BLESSING YOUTH LTD

Introduce yourself please

My name is Agonga Moody David. I am currently the chairperson of Airstrip Blessing Youth Limited.

Tell us more about Airstrip Blessing Youth Limited

Airstrip Blessed Youth group started 2019,  youths came together to address matters of climate change, food and unemployment. 5 males and 10 females ventured into fish business to kick off this journey and decided to formalize by legally registering it. In 2020, our group won Agribiz Value Addition equipment grants hence we received some fish value addition equipment. In 2022, our group was incubated by Kenya Climate Innovation Center under Kiambu Hub and this has seen it being registered as  agri-food company for its innovation about fish. At Airstrip Blessing Youth Limited, you dive into a world of aquaculture business, from illuminating exploration to a distinguished really Agri-food company that is being renowned for its expertise, and meticulous in processing of fish into delectable nutritious food.

How is your business improving nutrition?

Currently our focus for nutrition is based on children of seven months up to ten years, and the aged with allergy to red meat but in need of nutrition components. We do fish value addition by processing fish without bones, fish fillets, fish smokie, as we retain and address lack of vitamin A. We are also considering availability of nutritious food in market and affordability of nutritious food as we place prices on our products.

However, we still feel as a company that if we receive the right support, we can do better by packaging our nutritious fish value-added products to small units of grams to reach out to a larger community. With as low as 5 Kenya Shillings, we can target groups of breastfeeding and lactating mothers who are highly in need of our products, but can’t afford to buy it in kilograms.

What inspired you to engage in business in Nutrition as youth?

Our motivation and inspiration is geared by reduction of poverty, inequality, hunger and worldwide malnutrition, most nutritious food have less hours on shelf. Most youths don’t take time to understand reason as to why this is so, they also despise it and don’t see lack of nutrition among children and aged people being of concern to them, as a result most of youths are healthy and energetic.  These issues among others made us to stand out so that we can be a champion and role model of nutrition to our community and mostly focused on youth, less we forget climate crisis that makes earning income harder for most people who forget about food and nutrition balance. These are our co-pillars to start our agri-food company.

What opportunities are available for the youth?

At Airstrip we unleash youth-led innovation in aquaculture, nutritious food, and food loss minimization. Aquaculture meets innovation at our company as we empower youths to be self-employed and opportunity/job creators not seekers. We have forged valuable partnership with our partners hence we have gained practical skills and improve our business strategy as we continue to contribute to food and nutrition security.

Major challenge now is marketing, but we see it as an opportunity for youths.
